Special educational needs & disabilities
Every child is welcome here. We work closely with families and specialists so that each child gets the support they need to thrive.
Treating every child as an individual
Some children need a little extra help with their learning, communication, behaviour or physical needs. Whether your child has a diagnosis or you simply have a worry, we’ll listen, observe and plan with you.
Our Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) leads our support, working alongside each child’s key person and with outside professionals where needed.
Our support approach
We follow the graduated approach set out in the SEND Code of Practice: a simple cycle we repeat with you, so support keeps up as your child grows.
-
Assess
We observe your child and talk with you to understand their strengths and needs.
-
Plan
Together we agree clear, small targets and the support that will help.
-
Do
The key person and SENCo put the plan into practice through everyday play.
-
Review
We meet regularly to look at progress and decide what comes next.
How we can help
- A key person who knows your child well and shares updates with you
- Adapting activities, routines and the room so everyone can join in
- Working with health visitors, speech and language therapists and other specialists
- Helping you apply for extra funding, such as the Disability Access Fund
- Supporting requests for an Education, Health and Care (EHC) needs assessment
- Planning a careful move to school with the Reception team
